Keanu Reeves Set to Revisit Constantine
Deadline broke the news yesterday that Keanu Reeves will revisit the DC / Vertigo character Constantine on the big screen.
Warner Bros. Discovery is developing the overdue sequel with director Francis Lawrence, who helmed the 2005 film.
Akiva Goldsman is writing the script and producing the film under his Weed Road Pictures banner.
J.J. Abrams, who had been developing a competing take on the character, is producing along with his Bad Robot Productions partner Hannah Minghella.
HBO Max Passes on J.J. Abrams Constantine and Xanadu Series
Hot on the heels of the report that Keanu Reeves is coming back as Constantine, Deadline has some interesting details on the competing TV project.
J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot had been developing a Constantine series for HBO Max, with Guy Bolton writing scripts and "diversity" promised as a goal of the series. Apparently HBO Max has now passed on the concept.
Another one of Abrams' HBO Max projects was Madame Xanadu (which is apparently also referred to as Madame X). That one, penned by Angela Robinson has also been given the axe by the streamer.
Both projects are reportedly being shopped to other outlets.
It has been rough sledding for Bad Robot at HBO Max lately. Their high-profile series Demimonde was discarded by the streamer earlier this year. At this point, Abrams' only remaining series we are aware of are Justice League Dark and Green Lantern.
