Warner Bros Pulls Plug on Wonder Woman 3
After an inspiring start and a tragically terrible sequel, Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly pumping the brakes on the Wonder Woman film series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
An account detailing the progress of the newly-formed DC Studios reveals that the company is not moving forward with Wonder Woman 3, under the direction of Patty Jenkins.
Apparently Jenkins and Geoff Johns (who co-wrote Wonder Woman 1984) submitted a treatment for the film, but were told the project no longer fit into the new DC Studios game plan.
It's interesting to note that the report doesn't necessarily mean that there will be no third Wonder Woman movie with Gal Gadot, or no future Wonder Woman movie. It just seems as if the current take and direction are not going to be used.
The article also implies that current DCEU franchises will all be winding down. The suggestion is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will close out that franchise, and that the recently-touted return of Henry Cavill to the role of Superman is already being re-considered.
James Gunn Responds to DC Studios Rumors
James Gunn, newly-appointed Co-Chairman of DC Studios took to social media today to respond to a recent expose on the future of the film and entertainment slate, and (as rumors seem to characterize) the dismantling of the DCEU as fans know it.
Gunn starts off by pointing out that not everything that was reported is true. "Some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true," Gunn writes, adding, "Some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not."
He goes on to discuss the goal of transitioning into a studio that tells, "a cohesive story across film, TV, animation and gaming."
He then suggests that they are not discarding the work of Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins and filmmakers that have come before, "but, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities [and] the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far [and] to help rectify what has not."
Gunn sums up by asking fans to be patient with the process. His complete comments are below.
