The CW Cancels Batwoman
The CW has officially cancelled Batwoman. Showrunner Caroline Dries broke the new on social media a short time ago. "I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series," Dries wrote in her post. "Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans!"
The series was off to a rough start with a lackluster first season that featured actor Ruby Rose in the lead. Rose departed he show after season one, with stories later surfacing that she had been fired over bad behavior during the production. Javicia Leslie took over the lead for seasons two and three, and managed to grow a following of fans. However, the audience was apparently not enough to sustain the project.
Jon Watts No Longer Directing Fantastic Four
Director Jon Watts has resigned as director of Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four pic, according to a report from Deadline. Watts shepherded the MCU Spider-Man series and, reportedly, all the planning, work and promotion on Spider-Man: No Way Home has left the filmmaker wanting a break, while Marvel had hoped he'd immediately transition to the next franchise. The parting was amicable and both Marvel and Watts have expressed a desire to work together again in the future.
Blake Lively, Edgar Wright Team on Bryan Lee O'Malley Adaptation
Edgar Wright is back in the Bryan Lee O'Malley business again, according to a report from Deadline. The filmmaker who brought Scott Pilgrim Vs The World to the big screen and is now developing the Scott Pilgrim anime, has written an adaptation of O'Malley's Seconds. Blake Lively is on board to make her feature film directing debut on the project. Marc Platt is also producing. The project is set up at Searchlight Pictures.
The book tells of Katie, a talented young chef with a successful restaurant. Until it all goes to hell and she loses everything. A mysterious stranger arrives with a solution: Write down her mistakes, ingest a mushroom, go to sleep and wake anew. Miraculously, Katie's life is reset and she has a drawer full or magic mushrooms to allow her to undo her missteps. Now on a quest for perfection, Katie's grip on reality begins to loosen.
John Stamos Joins Spidey and His Amazing Friends as Iron Man
Disney Junior has announced their upcoming slate of programming, which includes a new season of Spidey and His Amazing Friends starting in August. Spidey will add a lot of new friends, not the least of which is Iron Man, voiced by John Stamos. Fans can also look forward to team-ups with Ant-Man (Sean Giambrone), the Wasp (Maya Aoki Tuttle), Reptil (Hoku Ramirez) and Black Cat (Jaiden Klein). New villains include Sandman (Tom Wilson) and Electro (Stephanie Lemelin).
The show will also feature four new songs from Patrick Stump.
Here's the synopsis for season two: Spidey and his Amazing Friends follows the adventures of Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales as they team up to defeat foes and save the day. In season two of the series, the trio of young Super Heroes are able to call on Avengers pals Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp and Reptil, in addition to Hulk, Ms. Marvel and Black Panther, for help when trouble arises — like when villain Electro tries to drain all of the power in the city and the Spidey Team must band together to use a new glowing web formula to turn the lights back on.
Ant-Man 3 Trades Release Date with The Marvels
Deadline reports that Disney is shuffling the release dates of two of its Marvel Studios offerings. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was slated for a summer release but is now coming out February 17, 2023. The February date had been earmarked for The Marvels, which will take that summer date of July 28, 2023. Both films are in production but word is that the Ant-Man sequel is moving faster.
The Umbrella Academy | Number One Sons Get Season 3 Posters
The social campaign for The Umbrella Academy has released two final pieces of key art promoting season three. Following the pattern of recent drops, we now have posters of the Number One members of the original team and the Sparrow team.
The #1 Sparrow is Marcus Hargreaves, played by Justin Cornwell. Like all the other Sparrows (except Christopher), Marcus wears a red leather action suit suggesting this team is more cohesive in their adult years than the originals ever were.
The returning #1 from The Umbrella team is Tom Hopper as the gorilla-powered Luther. The new season arrives on Netflix June 22.
Echo adds Devery Jacobs to Cast
Actor Devery Jacobs is the latest addition to Marvel Studios' fast-evolving Echo TV series. Deadline reports that the actor, currently seen on (and writing on) Reservation Dogs, will be playing a character named Julie. The news first surfaced on star Alaqua Cox's Instagram account, where she at-mentioned Jacobs being present for the "first day of filming."
It was later confirmed by Jacobs herself on social media.
The series continues the character's storyline which was established in Hawkeye and is expected to focus on her conflict with her surrogate father/nemesis Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio). Charlie Cox is rumored to reprising his Daredevil character for the series. Echo is due on Disney+ next year.
