The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Sets Disney+ Record
Disney+ has announced that The Falcon And The Winter Soldier holds the title for the most-watched series premiere ever on the streaming service. Over its debut weekend of March 19 to March 22 it was also the most watched title overall. The show is in good company with the streamers top three list also including Marvel Studios' previous debut WandaVision as well as Lucasfilm's much-loved series The Mandalorian.
Marvel Studios Developing Echo Spinoff From Hawkeye
Deadline reports that plans are afoot to give Echo her own Disney+ TV series after she makes her MCU debut in Hawkeye. Alaqua Cox is playing the role in the Hawkeye and would reprise it here. Marvel Studios has reportedly tapped Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen to write the series. They'll also serve as executive producers.
Netflix All In on Reeves' BRZRKR For Film and Anime
Netflix is developing both a live-action film and an anime follow up adapting Keanu Reeves' comic book BRZRKR, according to a report from Deadline. The book, which the actor co created with writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney, follows a violent demi-god who now takes on dangerous missions for the U.S. Government. The streamer plans to produce a live-action movie followed by an anime series exploring the larger world. Reeves will star in and produce the film, as well as provide voice acting for the anime. Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are also producing for BOOM! Adam Yoelin is also producing.
Emerald Fennell Developing Zantanna Feature
Variety reports that writer/director Emerald Fennell is developing a Zatanna film for Warner Bros. Fennell is presently enjoying acclaim for her Oscar-nominated film Promising Young Woman. She's writing a script for the film about the DC Comics' sorceress. The article is not specific about whether or not Fennel would also direct the movie. J.J. Abrams is producing under his his Bad Robot label.
Wallis Day Takes Kate Kane role on Batwoman
Actor Wallis Day (Krypton) has assumed the role of Kate Kane in the Batwoman TV series. Sunday's episode featured the surprise revelation that Kane is still alive but with her appearance altered. Kane was the primary character of season one with actor Ruby Rose filling the cape and cow. Rose famously dropped out immediately after the season ended, leaving the show's creators scrambling to create a new Batwoman (played by Javicia Leslie) and deal with Kane's abrupt disappearance. Leslie will continue to be the series lead and the show's titular superhero, but Day will be a regular player as the show explores what happened to Kane and why she can no longer mask up.
