Blade's Troubled Reboot Drained Once More
Marvel Studios' ill-fated Blade reboot has hit another roadblock.
The movie was announced four years ago, with Mahershala Ali touted as the new lead actor for the franchise.
After going through the development process it was due to start production last November, with an eye on releasing the film in late 2023. However, director Bassam Tariq abruptly fled the project just before that production start date.
Marvel then regrouped around director Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country) and screenwriting Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) with a timeline to start production in May of this year. The release date was bumped to September 2024.
Now, Variety reports the WGA writers strike is impacting the movie, and the May start is no longer possible. There's no telling how long the strike will continue, but the production will presumably spin up quickly once the strike is resolved.
Marvel has not yet adjusted the release date for the movie.
