Batgirl | Brendan Fraser Taking Villain Role
HBO Max's Batgirl movie continues to show rapid momentum. Deadline reports that actor Brendan Fraser is lined up to join the cast of the movie as the chief antagonist to Leslie Grace's Barbara Gordon. The report indicates that the villain may be Firefly, but stops short of confirming it. Fraser is currently starring on Doom Patrol as Robotman and has also been seen recently in the HBO Max feature No Sudden Move.
Ruby Rose Batwoman Feud Intensifies
As reported last week, actor Ruby Rose began airing her grievances about conditions on the set of season one of Batwoman, which promoted a rebuttal statement from Warner Bros. Television. There have been a number or public responses since then. Here's a brief recap.
Co-star Camrus Johnson took to twitter to basically confirm WBTV's account of things: that Rose was fired due to her own bad behavior. His post reads, in part, "she was fired. And it is VERY [emphasis his] hard to be fired when you’re the lead. Imagine what u have to do for that 2 happen [sic]." In a follow up post he states that, "a lot of lies were spread today," before affirming that the people who work on the show are, "great souls."
Rose specifically name-checked co-star Dougray Scott in her initial set of complaint-posts. Scott refuted her allegations with a statement that reads, "As Warner Bros. Television has stated, they decided not to exercise the option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about her workplace behaviour. I absolutely and completely refute the defamatory and damaging claims made against me by her; they are entirely made up and never happened."
Deadline reports that WBTV also has Scott's back in the situation. The studio issued this statement: "We condemn the comments made by Ruby Rose about Dougray Scott. Warner Bros. has found Mr. Scott to be a consummate professional, and never received any allegation against him of bullying, or of abusive behavior on his part. Mr. Scott was greatly respected and admired by his colleagues, and was a leader on the set."
Rose continued to expand on her complaints on Instagram throughout the weekend by publishing a number of email correspondences between her and various parties on the series. The Deadline article above summarizes some of the drama but Bleeding Cool captured a great many of those posts and wrote a pretty extensive framing of her narrative. Based on the Deadline report, it appears the general social venting is threatening to escalate into lawsuits.
