Black Widow Still Going to Theaters
As the country slowly begins to claw its way back to life, there's still a persistent question mark on theatrical releases. Disney has Black Widow set for a May 7 release, with not plans to put it directly to streaming, according to an article on Deadline. CEO Bob Chapek reportedly revealed on their earnings call that the studio was keeping an eye on consumer interest in returning to theaters and when the climate is right, Black Widow will restart the company's theatrical distribution business. The movie, delayed over a year due to pandemic lockdowns, would be the first MCU film in theaters since 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Peacemaker To Bow in January
The much anticipated Peacemaker show for HBO Max has tentative release date: January 2022. Max chief Casey Bloys revealed the news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He also promises a more cohesive presence for DC Comics properties in film and TV.
"It's a great example of what HBO Max can do with DC content in that we're producing at a level we haven't seen DC content on TV do thus far" Bloys said in the interview. "It's been one of [WarnerMedia CEO] Ann Sarnoff's priorities to organize the DC world for exactly what you're talking about — to make sure that the universe is logical and makes sense. She talks about the flywheel: that the movies speak to the TV shows that speak to the movies — that it's all connected."
Peacemaker is currently filming with James Gunn writing and directing episodes and John Cena reprising the character that will appear in The Suicide Squad this summer.
