Colin Farrell Signs for Penguin Series
Variety reports that actor Colin Farrell is officially on-board for HBO Max's Untitled Penguin TV series. The show is a spin-off of Warner Bros' The Batman and will represent an origin story of the villain's rise to power in Gotham. Farrell signed on to reprise the role from that movie, and also serve as executive producer on the series.
Live-Action Battle Chasers TV Series in Development
Deadline reports that Alcon Television Group is developing a live-action TV series based on Joe Madureira's Battle Chasers. Derek Kolstad, on a huge roll with John Wick and Nobody, is set to write and executive produce the series. The fantasy premise of the comics, a fan-favorite for Madureira's frenetic art style, unites four squabbling heroes in a quest to overthrow a despotic madman from destroying the world.
Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove and Ben Roberts are producing for Alcon. Adrian Askarieh is executive producing for Prime Universe. Chris Jones and Samantha Shear are executive producing for Zoic Studios. Ben Cook is also a producer.
Shang-Chi Sequel Coming from Destin Daniel Cretton
Director Destin Daniel Cretton, who hit a home run for Marvel Studios with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is confirmed to be working on the sequel film. Deadline reports that the filmmaker has scored a development deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu's Onyx Collective (a diversity-focused effort). Not only is the sequel in the works, but Cretton is also in development on a Disney+ series for Marvel, though no details are provided.
Echo and Clown Posters for Marvel Studios Hawkeye
The social campaign for Marvel Studios' Hawkeye had added two new character posters to the set of key art for the series. This week we have one for Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez (aka Echo) and one featuring Fra Fee as Kazi (aka Clown). New episodes of the series arrive Wednesdays on Disney+.
The Boys Gets Animated Spinoff
There's news coming out of CCXP relating to Prime Video's breakout franchise The Boys. Actor Karl Urban announced on social media yesterday that producers Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen have been working on an animated spin-off called The Boys: Diabolical. The series is an anthology of eight stories set in the world of the main series.
Authors of the episodes are Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Garth Ennis (comics series creator), Eliot Glazer and Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Goldberg and Rogen, Simon Racioppa (Invincible), Justin Roiland (Rick & Morty) and Ben Bayoth (Blark and Son), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine Nine) and Aisha Tyler (Fear The Walking Dead).
No release date was attached to the announcement, other than "Coming Soon." Fans can also look forward to the live-action spin-off as well as season three of the series, both of which are in production.
Fear the Walking Dead Renewed For 8
AMC has announced that Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for an eighth season. Also announced is the return of original cast member Kim Dickens. Dickens played Madison Clark in seasons 1 through 4 and her family was the focus of the action. The only surviving member of her family on season seven of the show is the character's daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Dickens is actually slated to reappear in season seven when it returns for its second half, starting April 17.
