The Penguin Series Gets HBO Max Greenlight
HBO Max has announced a straight-to-series order for Matt Reeves' vision of The Penguin, spinning-off from The Batman. Colin Farrell is set to reprise the role from the film, which looks to be a continuation, rather than an origin story.
"Colin exploded off the screen as the Penguin in The Batman, and having the chance to thoroughly explore the inner life of that character on HBO Max is an absolute thrill," Reeves said. "Dylan and I are so excited to work with Lauren in continuing Oz’s story as he grabs violently for power in Gotham."
The series, which still does not have an official title, is executive produced by Reeves, Farrell, Dylan Clark and Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner.
Gotham Knights Books 3 More Cast
The TV pilot for Gotham Knights has named three more cast members, according to a report from Deadline. Oscar Morgan is set to play Turner Hayes, a young man whose story mirrors Robin's with his biological parents murdered and a billionaire adopting him. Olivia Rose Keegan (High School Musical: The Series) is playing Duela, sometimes known as Joker's Daughter, a child born in Arkham Asylum. Navia Robinson (Raven's Home) is the third new cast addition, playing Carrie Kelley, a character who, in some realities, adopts the moniker of Robin. The show is in the pilot stage and has not yet been ordered to series.
Black Adam, The Flash, DC Films Delayed
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is performing major surgery on their release schedule, delaying all of their upcoming DC Comics-based films, except one.
- DC's League of Super Pets was slated for May 20, but will now open on July 29.
- Black Adam had been in that July 29 spot, but it's moving to October 21.
- The Flash, which was due out November 4, is now bumped to June 23 or 2023.
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom had a December 16 release date, but now opens March 17, 2023.
- Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the one movie going upstream, moving from June 2, 2023 all the way up to December 16 of this year.
Kraven Casts Foreigner
When Kraven the Hunter hits theaters, it seems the Spider-Man villain/anti-hero will be facing off against multiple antagonists. Deadline reports that actor Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) is taking on the role of Foreigner who, in the comics, waged a long campaign to try to destroy the web-slinger. While the movie looks to be loaded with dangerous and unscrupulous characters, Deadline's sources say Foreigner is the primary antagonist. He joins a cast that include Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola and Fred Hechinger with Aaron Taylor-Johnson set for the lead. Sony is holding a January 2023 date for the film's release.
