The Amazing Spider-Man Film Series

The Amazing Spider-Man film series is a sequence of two live-action movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It consists of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The series reboots Sony's uber-successful film franchise after plans for a fourth installment to Sam Raimi's film series fell apart.

Filmmaker Marc Webb lead the effort, casting Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. The series was conceived as a three movie arc that would, in part, explore the mystery of Peter Parker's parents. Disappointingly, the film's chose to tread familiar ground such as the origin story, death of Uncle Ben and emergence of the Green Goblin, and missed opportunities to differentiate itself from the previous track.

After the first two films failed to live up to the success of the previous series, Sony stopped development on the sequel and the Sinister Six spin-off. However, the series enjoyed a coda of sorts with the MCU-based film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
