Sony Planning Spider-related El Muerto Movie
Deadline reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment's latest attempt to squeeze every last drop of juice out of its Spider-Man license is a feature film focusing on the super-obscure hero El Muerto. Sony announced the project at CinemaCon during a panel that was attended by Grammy-winning recording artist/actor Bad Bunny (aka Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) who is set to star in the film.
This is a pretty deep cut from the Spider-Man library, with the character of Juan-Carlos Estrada, a second-generation luchadore who wrestles in an enchanted mask that grants him super strength. In the comics he fights Spider-Man in the ring, but eventually the pair team-up to take down Estrada's familial nemesis El Dorado.
Bad Bunny has been transitioning into acting and has a significant role in Sony's upcoming action pic Bullet Train. The musician/actor is said to have been persistently seeking a superhero franchise to anchor.
The movie is already slated for January 12, 2024.
Moon Knight Poster Brings Anubis Into Play
The social campaign for Marvel Studios' Moon Knight just revealed a new teaser poster for this week's episode. This one features a fully finished statue (in contrast to the stone prisons that hold Ammit and Khonshu) of Anubis. The statue is holding scales, fitting the Egyptian God's role as the Guardian of the Scales would judge a soul's worthiness to enter the realm of the undead. A soul weighing more than the feather of an ostrich would be at the mercy of Ammit while the rest could pass. Steven/Marc's soul may be in the balance after last week's episode so we'll have to see how this plays out. Watch the new episode tomorrow on Disney+.
Five Doctors on New Multiverse of Madness Poster
The social campaign for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has just released another new poster promoting the film. This one feels like the kind of art Drew Struzan would created for the the blockbusters of the 80s and 90s. At the center of the image is Benedict Cumberbatch as our hero, flanked by four variant versions of the same Doctor Strange. Across the top is a myriad of Scarlet Witch depictions featuring Elizabeth Olsen. Chiwetel Ejiofor's Mordo, Xochitl Gomez' America Chavez, Benedict Wong's Wong and Rachel McAdams' Dr. Palmer are all depicted as well. The film arrives in theaters May 6.
