Fans of John Cena know he's a practiced pianist. Fans of Peacemaker who saw him flex those muscles in the closing minutes of episode six, in which the troubled hero sits down at a box piano and begins playing a soulful version of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home."
On Twitter, showrunner James Gunn revealed that John Murphy came up with arrangement. The reveal was part of a rather lengthy thread where Gunn discusses the real moment between him and Cena that inspired the scene, and what it means to the character of Peacemaker.
"Chris Smith is an artist who has been decimated by this world," Gunn said. "This is not to say he is not culpable; he is. But he is emotionally mute, unable to express himself. I think when he's playing the piano here it's the first time we've really seen him. Everything else has been noise & drama & puffery."
