The official twitter for 20th Century Studios' X-Men film The New Mutants has revealed a new theatrical release date for the oft-delayed movie. The film is now due out August 28th.
The New Mutants has suffered more than its fair share of delays even before the industry was thrown into turmoil by the Covid-19 pandemic. There seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel when the film was slotted for an April debut, but the pandemic lockdown thwarted that release as well.
The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee, both self-described fans of the comics.
The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Mirage and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes. The film reshapes the comic book story with horror overtones. Instead of being educated at an upstate school the five young mutants are imprisoned in a secret asylum-like facility.
