New Mutants Score November Home Release
20th Century Studios' ill-fated X-Men spinoff The New Mutants now has a home video release date. According to a tweet, fans will be able to get the movie on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and Digital on November 17. The film was released after years of delays back in August, to a market that was still extremely weak due to pandemic-inspired lockdowns. Few fans saw it during that engagement, so this release will likely be the first chance many have to view it.
Alita Returning to Theaters October 30
A tweet from filmmaker James Cameron informs fans that Alita: Battle Angel, the 2019 film he produced based, is headed back to theaters in a few weeks. Many theaters in the U.S. are showing older releases to pandemic-pared audiences in the absence of new releases from the studios. So, if you're a fan, October 30 is your chance to catch it on the big screen again.
Lumberjanes Headed for HBO Max
HBO Max is closing in on a series deal to develop the popular comic Lumberjanes as an animated series, according to a report from Deadline. Noelle Stevenson (She-Ra), who co-created the comics with Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis and Brooklyn A. Allen, will adapt the comic and serve as executive producer. Watters, Ellis and Allen are co-producing. The comic was published by Boom! Studios. From the Boom! side, Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are executive producers and Mette Norkjae is co-producing.
The Boom! website provides this description for the premise: "At Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together…and they’re not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way!"
Riverdale, Batwoman Resume Production
Deadline reports that both Riverdale season five and Batwoman season two have resumed production in Vancouver. The shows were halted temporarily due to delays involving the availability of COVID-19 tests. Without the necessary safeguards in place, Warner Bros. Television put a pause on things. The report also indicates that The Flash season seven is also slated to roll cameras later his week.
