If How it Should Have Ended runs backwards in time to create an infinite number of alternate realities where The Flash ended much, much sooner in this latest segment.
The Flash is the 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery film spinning out of the 2017 DC Extended Universe film Justice League. It is based on the DC Comics speedster character of the same name.
Ezra Miller, who played the character in Justice League and had a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, reprises his role as the multiple versions of DCU's scarlet speedster.
According to press materials: Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no superheroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The cast also includes rising star Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) as Zod, Ron Livingston (The Conjuring) as Henry Allen, Maribel VerdĂș (Elite) as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons (Zack Snyder's Justice League) as Iris West, Antje Traue (Man of Steel) as Faora and Michael Keaton (Batman) as Batman.
Andy Muschietti (It, It: Chapter Two) is attached to direct from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds Of Prey) from a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Joby Harold (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) which reportedly features a storyline that draws from the Flashpoint comics.
The film is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco. Executive producers are Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Marianne Jenkins.
