Award-Winning Moms In Development For TV
Deadline reports that Playground Entertainment is developing a TV series based on Yeong-Shin Ma's award-winning graphic novel Moms. The Korean-language book involves a trio of middle-aged mothers who resolve to break out of their oppressed lives and, according to a blurb from publisher Drawn and Quarterly, pursue, " sexual adventures and mishaps, ending up in nightclubs, motels, and even the occasional back-alley brawl."
Scott Huff and David Stern are executive producing for Playground.
Marvel's Halloween Film Casts Gael Garcia Bernal
Variety reports that actor Gael Garcia Bernal (Old) has been cast in the lead role of Marvel Studios' secret Halloween Film. The film, which is in development for Disney+, may or may not be focusing on the Jake Gomez version of the Werewolf by Night character, although that hasn't been confirmed. The special is set to start production early next year, for release next October.
Black Widow Tops Streaming Ratings for Movies
The streaming ratings numbers from Neilsen for the week of October 4th to the 10th have arrived and the comics-to-film winner this week is Marvel Studios' Black Widow.
The film was made available to all subscribers of Disney+ during the window and recruited 676 million minutes of viewership. That makes it #1 on the Movies chart and #5 across all charts. The film previously appeared on the charts for the week of July 26th, but at that time it was only available as paid video on demand.
Meanwhile, perpetual ratings champ Lucifer continued to tempt viewers. The Netflix series enjoyed 359 million minutes of viewing across its 83 episodes. That's a loss of 33% of its minutes from the previous week. The show ranked #8 on the Original Programming chart down five slots from the previous window.
Conspicuously absent, once again, is Marvel Studios' What If...? The show released its ninth and final episode for season one on Disney+, introducing its Guardians of the Multiverse team and wrapping up the main story arc. Sometimes weekly series enjoy a bump in their last week as fans arrive to binge the series as a whole, but that didn't happen here. The show would have needed to get more than 248 million minutes to rank on the Original Programming charts, but it failed to reach that threshold. So, for the second time in its initial run, What If...? is not a top 10 show.
