Oscar Isaac Confirmed for Moon Knight
Although it has seemed like a done deal for a while now, Marvel Studios made it official today: Oscar Isaac is starring in the Moon Knight TV series. The studio published an image of the actor in front of what looks to be a wall, papered with Moon Knight artwork, along with the blurb, "We Are Moon Knight" followed by the actor's name. Thankfully the artwork depicts the classic model of the Fist of Khonshu, and not the suit-wearing latter version. The show will stream on Disney+ though no timeframe is set at the moment.
Warner Bros. Developing Joker 2?
Although writer/director Todd Phillips has said he only intended his movie Joker to be a standalone picture, Warner Bros. is apparently exploring a sequel. A Hollywood Reporter feature on the most powerful lawyers in the industry mentions Phillips' attorney Warren Dern and in the blurb drops this mention: "Todd Phillips struck a deal to co-write the next Joker installment."
That the studio wants a Joker 2 is not too surprising given the runaway success of the original. However, Warner Bros. has not issued any official word.
Green Lantern Series Gets Director
HBO Max's Green Lantern TV series continues to heat up. Deadline reports that that Lee Toland Krieger has been hired to direct the first two episodes of the show. Krieger is a frequent collaborator of producer Greg Berlanti and recently wowed fans with the pilot episode of Superman And Lois. Green Lantern has currently cast Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott and Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner.
3 Comic Based Shows in Nielsen Top 10
In a rare showing, three comic-based TV shows ranked on the Nielsen list for Original streaming series this week.
For the period of April 26-May 2, Marvel Studios' The Falcon and the Winter Soldier began its descent. The Disney+ show ranked #4 this week, down three spots from last week's #1 showing. With no new episodes releasing in this window, the series attracted 364 million minutes of viewership, which is a steep drop of over 54% from the last window. This would be the show's seventh week of release.
Invincible, based on the Skybound comics by Robert Kirkman, popped up on the charts this week at #8. The Amazon Prime Video show released its buzzed-about season one finale during this window and generated 176 million minutes of viewership. It's only the second time in its six weeks of release that the show has broken the top 10.
Finally, Lucifer stuck in the top 10 for the second week in a row despite being in between season releases. For this window, the Netflix series pulled 140 million minutes of viewership which is a 39% drop from the previous week. It was still enough to claim the #10 spot. The show just dropped a new block of episodes so we expect it to claim the top spot in a few weeks.
Christopher McDonald Set for Secret Invasion
Deadline reports that Happy Gilmore actor Christopher McDonald is the latest actor to join Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion series. Few details are revealed other than to say the actor will not be playing a character from the comics. The series is set for Disney+ and will feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos.
