Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is 20th Century Studios' 2007 live-action sequel to Fantastic Four (2005), both of which are based on the Marvel Comics of the same name.
The movie opens with the arrival of a strange silver object from space, which disrupts the weeding of Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba). The team, including The Thing (Michael Chiklis) and the Human Torch (Chris Evans) investigate and encounter the Silver Surfer (the voice of Laurence Fishburn over the motion capture physical performance of Doug Jones). The Surfer is there to warn them of an impeding threat, but Doctor Doom (Julian McMahon) sees an opportunity to grow his power.
Tim Story returns to direct from a screenplay by Don Payne and Mark Frost. The movie did not please critics, but got a better reaction from fans who appreciated an upping-of-the-ante in terms of action and spectacle. The box office performance was less impressive and effectively put an end to this version of Marvel's super team.
