Gal Gadot reprises her role as Diana, an Amazon princess of Themyscria. The film finds her as a young woman in training on the island in 1918. When United States pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) accidentally breaches the shield that hides Themyscria from the outside world, Diana is tasked with safely returning him. It's her first experience with a man and with the larger world, that is presently in the grip of World War I. Diana realizes that the war is motivated in part by the Greek God Ares and joins Trevor on a mission to locate him and kill him.
The movie was directed by Patty Jenkins from a script by Allan Heinberg. It was well-received by fans and critics who enjoyed the inventive action, the optimistic tone and spirit and the chemistry between its leads. The movie did well at the box office, easily becoming profitable. Gadot played Wonder Woman again in Justice League that same year, and again in the 2020 sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.
