As promised, the official trailer for The Suicide Squad has arrived. The footage opens with John Cena's Peacemaker arguing with Idris Elba's Bloodsport over the mission objective of rescuing Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). Flag (Joel Kinnaman) barks that, "we don't leave one of our own behind," obviously unclear on the concept of a Suicide Squad. Then King Shark eats one guy and rips another in half! At the end is possibly the big villain reveal as a giant Starro rampages.
The movie arrives in theaters and on HBO Max August 6th.
The Suicide Squad is Warner Bros' live-action sequel to the 2016 film Suicide Squad, based on the DC Comics team of the same name.
The concept features a government-controlled task force made up of expendable super-villains. Margot Robbie returns to the sequel as Harley Quinn, with Idris Elba joining to fill the gap left by Will Smith. Elba will play Bloodsport.
James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) picked up directing and scripting duties when he was temporarily on the outs with Marvel/Disney. Production commenced on The Suicide Squad September 13th, 2019.
In addition to Robbie and Elba, the cast includes Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney, reprising their roles as Amanda Waller, Rick Flag and Captain Boomerang respectively. Newcomers in the expansive ensemble include Nathan Fillion, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, Joaquin Cosio, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland and Michael Rooker.
