Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing is the 2019 live-action TV series developed for the DC Universe streaming service based on the DC Comics character of the same name, originally written and drawn by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
The series follows Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe. Andy Bean plays Alec Holland while Derek Mears portrays his transformed counterpart. The series also stars Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, Kevin Durand and Henderson Wade.
Swamp Thing was produced by James Wan and was well-received by fans and critics. Unfortunately it was cancelled just days after its initial release in May 2019. While there are many competing theories about the cause for the cancellation, it likely came down to being a high-budget show on a struggling streaming platform.
The show was dusted-off in 2020 for a broadcast run on The CW Network, but there's no indication that this will lead to any revival of the series effort.
