Spider-Man MCU Films to Continue Past No Way Home.
A few years ago Sony seemed willing to terminate their collaboration with Marvel Studios and resume making Spider-Man movies that are outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many fans wondered if Spider-Man: No Way Home would actually be the last MCU Spider-Man movie. Now, producer and former Sony chief Amy Pascal tells Fandango that current plans are to continue the franchise with Marvel and Tom Holland beyond this year's film.
"This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie," Pascal told Fandango in an interview. "We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies."
Fans have seen recent signs of the softening of the barrier between Sony's Spidey-adjacent films and the MCU. The stinger for Venom: Let There Be Carnage seemingly transported the lethal protector into the MCU, and Michael Keaton's Vulture character from Spider-Man: Homecoming appears in the upcoming Morbius film.
Concussion Team Adapting The Recount
Deadline reports that the filmmakers behind the movie Concussion are regrouping around the Scout Comics title The Recount. Concussion writer/director Peter Landesman is set to write, direct and produce the film. Nick Jones Jr. (Yasuke) is co-writing the script.
The project seems tailor-made for these politically divisive times, with a mass conspiracy successfully assassinating the President of the United States, and targeting the female Vice President next. Now, secret service agent Bree Barto must protect the woman whose views she completely opposes.
Don Handfield will produce for Motor Content with the Jordan Moore serving as Executive Producer. Jonathan Kadin is producing for KadinCreative. Scout Comics are also producing.
Locke & Key Climbs to #2 on The Charts
Accounting for a holiday delay, the Nielsen Ratings Service has published the streaming numbers for the week of October 25-31.
Once again Locke & Key is the top draw in the sphere of comics-based programming. The Netflix series enjoyed over 1 billion minutes of viewership across its two seasons and twenty episodes. That's a 67% increase over the previous window where the new season debuted. It's enough to make it #2 on not only the Original Programming chart, but across all of the streaming charts.
Riverdale's run on Netflix continues to attract viewers as well. With five season and 96 episodes, the series pulled 394 million minutes of viewership. That's an almost 10% increase from the previous week and enough to move it from #10 to #9 on the Acquired Programming chart.
Finally, Marvel Studios' Black Widow slips a bit on the Movies chart. The Disney+ fare gathered 170 million minutes of viewership, down almost 37% from the previous week. It falls from #1 to #7 on the Movies chart.
