Disney+ Orders American Born Chinese to Series
Deadline reports that Disney+ has gone straight-to-series with an order to adapt Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel American Born Chinese for streaming. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is set to direct and executive produce the series. Kelvin Yu (Westworld) writer, showrunner and executive producer. Brother Charles Yu (also of Westworld) is writing and executive producing. Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Asher Goldstein and Yang are also executive producers. The show is in development with Disney Branded Television and 20th Television.
The book involves the intersecting stories of Jin Wang, the only Chinese-American student at his new school, the Monkey King of myth and legend and Chin-Keen, a caricature of negative Chinese stereotypes.
Marvel Studios' What If...? | Final Episode Poster
The social campaign for Marvel Studios' What If...? has released a new poster for the season one finale. The poster features Gamora in Thanos-esque armor. While its not visible in the new poster, we've seen this version of the character wielding the double-blade that Thanos used in Avengers: Endgame. The episode likely features The Watcher assembling a team of guardians from the heroes of previous episodes to stand against Infinity Ultron. Watch the finale Wednesday, October 6 on Disney+.
DC's Stargirl | Joel McHale a Regular on Season 3
Actor Joel McHale will enjoy a promotion to series regular for season three of DC's Stargirl, according to a report from Deadline. The actor has appeared intermittently since the first episode as Sylvester Pemberton, a hero initially known as Star-Spangled Kid before taking on the moniker of Starman. The character is a member of the original Justice Society of America, the former partner of Luke Wilson's Pat Duggan and the inspiration for Brec Bassinger's titular hero. Apparently he'll have a more active role in the show during the next phase. McHale appears with the classic JSA this week's episode.
