Comic-Based Nimona Movie Halted at Blue Sky
Blue Sky Studios, the feature animation animation arm of 20th Century Studios, has been shuttered by their new parent company Walt Disney Pictures, according to a report from Deadline. The move is not surprising given that Disney already had two thriving feature animation studios. This is bad news, however, for fans of comic-based content, as the in-development adaptation of Noelle Stevenson's graphic novel Nimona has been halted. The feature was apparently very far along and only 10 months away from its theatrical release date, but Deadline reports that Disney has no plans to release it. Disney will retain all of Blue Sky's intellectual properties, including the Ice Age franchise, as well as the library of films.

The summary from the DC Comics website provides this synopsis of the premise: "Deep in the American intelligence community, someone realizes that comic book creators, who travel all over the world to sell their wares, might make the perfect cover for operatives in the dangerous, topsy-turvy world of intelligence and counterintelligence…and that’s when all hell breaks loose. This is the story of the time the world of comics and the world of international spywork smashed together—with unexpected results!"
