Son of The Mask is the 2005 sequel to New Line Cinema's 1994 film The Mask, both based on the Dark Horse Comics franchise.
Jamie Kennedy replaces Jim Carrey as the lead, this time playing an aspiring animator with a wife and newborn son, who comes into possession of the titular mythic mask. This time the mask's creator, the god Loki (Alan Cumming) wants his relic back.
The move also stars Traylor Howard, Kal Penn, Steven Wright and Bob Hoskins.
Directed by Lawrence Guterman from a script by Lance Khazei, the sequel is not quite as inspired as the original. It still manages to conjure up some crow-pleasing moments, including handing the mask over to baby Alvey and the dog Otis. It fizzled with critics and failed to connect with audiences, thus killing the franchise.
