Joker Folie á Deux is the 2024 Warner Bros. live-action sequel to the highly-successful Joker, both based on the DC Comics character of the same name.
Although writer/director Todd Phillips has previously stated he had no intentions to do more than one film, news leaked in May of 2021 that Phillips had been hired to co-write a follow up script.
That script was further confirmed by a June 2022 report in which Phillips revealed the script and co-writer Scott Silver, along with news that Joaquin Phoenix was working on a deal to reprise his role. The title was also revealed at that time, with "Folie á Deux," referring to a French psychological term for a disorder that affects two or more people. To wit, Joker's madness spreads to another.
Lady Gaga is confirmed to be co-starring in the picture, the second half of the "Deux." Speculation is that she'll play a version of Harley Quinn and the film will include musical numbers. Gaga and Philips previously worked together on A Star is Born.
Zazie Beetz is also expected to reprise her role of Sophie Dumond, the one-time object of Arthur Fleck's affection. Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey are also cast in the film.
