Marvel's Jessica Jones is the 2015 live-action TV series developed by Marvel Television, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It was part of a block of programming developed for the Netflix streaming service featuring Marvel characters.
Based on the acclaimed comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, the series follows the spiraling life of, a tough-nosed detective (Krysten Ritter) with some lots of baggage: including a failed career as a superhero. When her nemesis Killgrave (David Tennant) resurfaces to prey on the women of New York City, Jones must summon the courage to confront her own abuse at his hand.
The series also stars Rachel Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss. Season one also introduced Mike Colter as Luke Cage to the pocket universe.
Season one of the series was well-received by fans and critics as both entertaining and an thoughtful examination at issues of sexual abuse and mental illness. Seasons two and three were less well received.
The series ran for three seasons and also saw the character appearing in the crossover series The Defenders.
