Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the 2017 Marvel Studios live-action sequel to Guardians Of The Galaxy. It is the second movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy film series.
The movie reunites the core cast of the first film which includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket and Vin Diesel as Baby Groot. The story opens with the fully-united team working for Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) the Sovereign. However, Rocket's greed compromises the deal when he steals Sovereign treasure and the group ends up on the run. They flee to a remote planet, which turns out to be a living being called Ego (personified as actor Kurt Russell), who is also revealed to be Quill's father. Ego's intentions, however, appear to be more sinister the longer the team stays with him.
Also returning from the previous film are Michael Rooker as Youndu, Karen Gillan as Nebula. The cast also adds Pom Klementieff as Mantis.
James Gunn wrote and directed the film. It did gangbusters at the box office, surpassing the first film and becoming the fifth highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film. The film did well with fans and critics alike.
In 2018, a social network-generated controversy temporarily had Disney temporarily cutting ties with Gunn, the studio later reversed its decision and promised that the filmmaker would continue to shepherd the franchise into Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Before that movie is made, the characters are seen in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, where they ally with Thor. They'll also be seen in Thor: Love and Thunder.
