Gotham is the 2014, live-action Fox TV series based on the DC Comics characters found in the Batman comics.
The series is set in a pre-Batman Gotham City. New Gotham City Police recruit Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) finds a corrupt system of law enforcement ruled by criminals. Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) is nothing more than a disrespected, umbrella-carrying flunkie for mobster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith). Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is an insecure forensic investigator who resents the fact that nobody appreciates his intellect. Young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is struggling with the murder of his parents, an event he refuses to put behind him over the protests of his military-trained butler Alfred (Sean Pertwee). Wayne is befriended by streetwise criminal-in-the-making Selina Kyle (Carmen Bicondova).
Also featured prominently were Donal Logue, Erin Richards, Morena Baccarin, Drew Powell, Michael Chiklis, Crystal Reed, Anthony Carrigan and Cameron Monaghan.
The series was greeted with generally positive reviews from critics. It garnered mixed reactions from fans who found some of the alternative takes on classic Batman characters to be off-brand and sometimes laughable.
The show ran for five seasons on Fox, with the final episode flashing forward to show a fully-formed Gotham City with a newly-arrived Batman.
