Deadpool is 20th Century Studios' 2016 live-action adaptation of the Marvel Comics character of the same name created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld. It is the first film in the Deadpool film series.
Mercenary solider Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) falls in love with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and plans to marry her when he is stuck with cancer. He's offered a cure by Ajax (Ed Skrein) who instead subjects Wilson to a torturous experimental treatment which leaves him disfigured, but with the ability to heal from any injury. Now in the guise of Deadpool, Wilson seeks revenge on Ajax while trying to figure out how to return to Vanessa in his-newly horrific form.
The movie also stars T.J. Miller, Gina Carano and Brianna Hildebrand.
Tim Miller directed from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film was a massive hit at the box office, setting records as the highest-grossing R-rated film and the highest-grossing X-Men movie. It was a big hit with the critics and fans alike.
As an interesting note, this film marks the second time Reynolds has played Deadpool on the big screen, with his first outing being a very ill-conceived take on the character appearing in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie is followed by Deadpool 2.
