Batman (1989 Film Series)
The 1989 Batman Film Series is a cycle of four movies that includes Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.
The franchise was initially built on the creative vision of filmmaker Tim Burton who combined his Goth sensibilities with the dark tones of the comic books to create a new take on the comic book superhero that was artful and entertaining, without the self-mockery of previous comic book adaptations.
However, the studio gradually let the films slip into camp and self-parody as Joel Schumacher took the reigns on the latter efforts.
Actor Michael Keaton enjoyed a bit of a revival in the role decades later. He played Batman in the Batgirl feature film, which was to have been released in 2023, but was buried by the movie studio. He did make it back to the big screen in 2023's multiverse hopping film The Flash.
