Annie is the 1982 feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, both of which are based on Harold Gray's classic comic strip Little Orphan Annie.
The story details the musical adventures of young Annie (Aileen Quinn), living in a New York City orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan (Carol Burnett). Annie is chose to spend a week living with wealthy entrepreneur Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks (Albert Finney) as a publicity stunt to soften the business mogul's image. Of course, the pair bond and several musical numbers later, both of their fortunes change.
Annie is directed by John Huston from a screenplay by Carol Sobieski. It was produced by Columbia Pictures.
Like the stage play, the film is enjoyable for its upbeat spirit and song interludes. Popular enough to spawn a direct-to-TV sequel and two remakes.
