The Umbrella Academy season three drops today on Netflix. Not sure what to expect? How about a well cared for, publicly adored, fully-functional team of Sparrows? It's all good and well until the old team shows up to crash the party.
After putting a stop to the 1960s doomsday, The Umbrella Academy returns home to 2019, convinced they have fixed the timeline. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly how they left them. Welcome to the Sparrow Academy.
The Umbrella Academy is the Netflix original TV series based on the Dark Horse Comics franchise of the same name by Gerard Way and Garbriel Ba.
The TV series finds the adult members of a super team / adopted family reuniting after years of estrangement due to their father's mysterious death. Drawing from tropes found in comics like X-Men, the father in this case is Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) a wealthy industrialist who adopted seven children, who were born under bizarre circumstances and each of whom has a super-human ability. Vanya (Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castaneda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Ben (Justin H. Min) are the children who live and train at the Umbrella Academy. They are cared for by their "mother" Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins) and the family butler Pogo (Adam Godley) an intelligent chimpanzee.
