Perhaps one thing missing from the marketing of 20th Century Studios' troubled film The New Mutants was close ties with the X-Men franchise. Well they're fixing that with this announcement trailer which emphasizes the parent franchise. The movie arrives on the home entertainment market November 17.
In this terrifying, action-filled film based on the Marvel comic series, five young people who demonstrate special powers are forced to undergo treatment at a secret institution -- allegedly to cure them of the dangers of their powers. But it's soon clear that their containment is part of a much bigger battle between the forces of good and evil!
The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee, both self-described fans of the comics.
The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Mirage and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes. The film reshapes the comic book story with horror overtones. Instead of being educated at an upstate school the five young mutants are imprisoned in a secret asylum-like facility.
