Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the 2003 animated Fox Kids TV series based on the franchise of the same name created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
This series was the first return to animation since the 1987 show that transformed the title from obscure indie comic to mainstream phenomenon. Hewing closer to the tone of the comics, this series focused more on ninja action than goofy gags. Like the comics, Splinter is the mutated rat companion of Hamato Yoshi, not the man himself. The show dispenses with the familiar origin story and begins directly with the Leonardo (Michael Sinterniklaas), Raphael (Frank Frankson), Michaelangelo(Wayne Grayson) and Donatello (Sam Riegel) questing to find their lost master.
The series was developed by Lloyd Goldfine and was well-received by fans and critics alike. It ran for seven seasons and a total of 156 episodes.
