The Turtles try to rescue Splinter, but stumble directly into The Shredder's (James Avery) trap in this clip from season one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, "Enter: The Shredder." Watch the series now on Paramount+.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the 1987, made-for-syndication, animated TV series based on the indie comics created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
The show tells the origin story of four ordinary turtles who are dumped into the sewers (as many unwanted pets were) where they are adopted by an exiled ninja master named Hamato Yoshi who now lives there. Yoshi and the turtles encounter a mutagenic ooze which morphs the turtles into a semi-human state, while transforming Yoshi into a human-rat hybrid. Yoshi, who the turtles call Splinter, proceeds to teach them the ways of the Ninja. The show's primary villain is Shredder, Yoshi's rival master also known as Oroku Saki.
The series was wildly popular and created in part to support a toy line, which was also wildly popular. TMNT quickly grew into a bona fide franchise what was followed by numerous film adaptations, and countless TV shows.
