Tales from the Crypt is the 1989 HBO live-action TV series based on the EC Comics anthology comic book series of the same name.
The series was created by iconic 1980s action movie filmmakers Joel Silver, Richard Donner, Robert Zemeckis, Walter Hill and David Giler.
Each episode of the show was introduced by The Cryptkeeper, an animatronic ghoul voiced by John Kassir. The series was an anthology of single-episode horror stories, most of which were adapted directly from stories found in the Tales of The Crypt comics, as well as various other EC Comics titles.
Thanks to its movie pedigree and HBO-level of gore and violence, the series enjoyed an all-star roster of Hollywood talent with appearances from actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Paxton, Benicio Del Toro, Christopher Reeve, Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor, Ke Huy Quan, Michael J. Fox, Steve Buscemi and Tom Hanks to name a few.
The series also enjoyed a roster of heavy-hitting horror directors of the era, as well as a theme song by Danny Elfman.
The show was a massive success and ran for seven seasons. It also spawned a short series of theatrical features, as well as spin-off shows.
