Actor/filmmaker Robert Downey Jr. announced today that he's producing a new TV series for Netflix based on Jeff lemire's much-loved DC/Vertigo series Sweet Tooth. Downey's wife and partner Susan Downey is also producing.
More information was found in a press release issued by the streamer.
Netflix's official synopsis frames the show as, "the broad appeal, family-friendly, storybook adventure of Gus — part deer, part boy — who leaves his home in the forest to find the outside world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself in search of answers about this new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins."
In the comics Gus is aided by a hardened man named Jeppard with untrustworthy motives who promises to help him find sanctuary.
The cast includes Christian Convery (who we have to surmise is playing Gus), Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar and Will Forte, with James Brolin as the voice of the narrator.
Jim Mickle and Beth Schwartz are named as executive producers / writers / co-showrunners. Also executive producing are the aforementioned Downeys, Amanda Burrel and Linda Moran. Team Downey's Evan Moore is producing.
Netflix has ordered eight one-hour episodes for season one.
