The Punisher (1989 Film)
The Punisher is a 1989 live-action Carolco Pictures/New World Pictures feature film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
Dolph Lundgren stars as Frank Castle, an undercover cop whose family is killed by Mafia hitmen. Castle now operates as The Punisher, waging a one-man war on crime from within the sewers of New York City. The movie also stars Louis Gossett Jr., Jeroen Krabbe, Kim Miyori and Barry Otto.
Mark Goldblatt directed from a script by Boaz Yakin.
The film was a critical and box office flop, going direct-to-video in the United States. Comic fans tend to dislike the movie for its lack of connection to the comics that establish the character.
