Man-Thing is a 2005 live-action Lionsgate film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
Matthew Le Nevez stars as Kyle Williams, the new sheriff in the bayou town of Bywater, who arrives to find the town has a startling number of missing persons reports. His investigation unearths a feud between land developers lead by Frederick Schist (Jack Thompson) and the local Seminole tribe. At the center of the feud is the formless swamp creature known as the Man-Thing, who may be a Seminole shaman called Ted Sallis, transformed into an Earthen vessel of vengeance. Rachael Taylor (Jessica Jones) also stars as school teacher Teri Richards who helps Williams navigate the local culture.
Brett Leondard (The Lawnmower Man) directed the film from a script by Hans Rodionoff.
The film had initially been developed for a theatrical release, but was so poorly received by test audiences that it ultimately screened in the U.S. on Syfy instead.
