Sunday will be the 20 year anniversary of Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson and Tara Reid rocking your socks off as the titular band in Josie and the Pussycats. This week they reunite virtually to celebrate the event.
Josie and the Pussycats is Universal Pictures' 2001 live-action adaptation of the Archie Comics' characters of the same name.
Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson and Tara Reid star as Josie McCoy, Valerie Brown and Melody Valentine respectively, who make up the girl rock band Josie and the Pussycats. The band is recruited by an unscrupulous record producer named Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming) who signs them to the label MegaRecords and turns them into overnight stars. However, MegaRecordsCEO Fiona (Parker Posey) who are conspiring with government officials to brainwash the masses through encoded messages on pop singles. It's up to the band to unwind the plot and take back their music.
Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan directed the movie from a script they co-wrote. The film bombed at the box office and flopped with the critics as well. However, it endures as a cult favorite among fans.
