Heavy Metal (1981 Film)

Heavy Metal is Columbia Pictures animated feature film based on characters and stories featured in Heavy Metal magazine.

The film is presented in anthology format featuring eight unconnected stories, a mix of direct adaptations of stories the magazine, stories using characters from the magazine and original stories.

The film has a noteworthy voice cast of comedic actors including John Candy, Harold Ramis, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty and many others. It also featured an appropriate soundtrack that favored heavy metal music and included songs of Sammy Hagar, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Journey, Devo and others.

The movie opened to mixed reviews but attained moderate success at the box office. It spawned no direct sequels though a second animated feature was made under the brand nearly 20 years later.
