In the year 2045, after a global financial crisis, the world is engulfed in an AI-driven "sustainable war". Hired as a mercenary unit, Major Motoko Kusanagi leads a reformed Public Security Section 9 to face off against new strains of cybercrime and the sudden appearance of "Post-Human," a being with tremendous intelligence and physical capabilities.
Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki are the directors of the series. Ilya Kuvshinov is credited with character designs.
