Sweet Tooth Series Casts Messiah Alum
Production is underway on the adaptation of Jeff Lemire's comic Sweet Tooth, and the series has cast Stefania LaVie Owen as a series regular. Deadline reports that LaVie Owen will play Bear, the leader of the "Animal Army," protecting Hybrid human/animals from their cruel creators. The Netflix series has been shooting in New Zealand. LaVie Owen has previously been seen in Netflix's Messiah and Hulu's Chance.
Lead Role Cast in Ms. Marvel for Disney+
Deadline reports that one Iman Vellani has been cast in the lead role for Ms. Marvel on Disney+. Vellani is a virtual unknown, with no screen credits to be found in IMDb. She is apparently a young filmmaker and director who is active in the Toronto Film scene. Last year she was part of a diversity effort at the Toronto International Film Festival. Deadline claims that Marvel has been committed to finding the right match for the role, even if it means looking for a newcomer. Marvel has not confirmed the casting.
Locke & Key 2 Adds Alumni from The Tick
The Netflix series Locke & Key has picked up three new cast members for season two, according to a report from Deadline. Brendan Hines who played the hero Superian on Amazon's adaptation of The Tick, is joining as a history teacher with a hidden agenda at the school the Locke children attend. Aaron Ashmore and Hallea Jones both appeared in season one but are being promoted to cast regulars. Finally, young actress Liyou Abere is in mix a as guest player, acting as Bode's (Jackson Robert Scott) new bestie. The second season is currently filming in Toronto.
Batwoman, Riverdale Shut Down
Production on Batwoman season two and Riverdale season five has been temporarily paused according to a new report by Variety. The production efforts, which are located in British Columbia, rely on continuous COVID-19 testing, the processing of which has been delayed. Warner Bros TV is also delaying production starts CW series on DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, both of which are gearing up for season six.
