Gotham Knights Gets Pilot Order
Deadline reports that the proposed Gotham Knights TV series has been ordered to pilot by The CW. The premise finds Bruce Wayne's adopted son forming an alliance with the offspring of Batman's villains who have been framed with his murder. Chad Fiveash. James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams are developing the story for Berlanti Productions. Danny Cannon (Pennyworth, Gotham) will direct the pilot.
Dakota Johnson to Star in Madame Web Film
Deadline reports that actor Dakota Johnson (Bad Times at the El Royale) is in talks to star in Sony Pictures Entertainment's next Spider-Man Universe film, Madame Web. S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) is tapped to direct from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Morbius).
Story details are scarce. Comic readers were introduced to Madame Web as an elderly woman named Cassandra Webb who has the gift of telepathy and sometimes helped Spider-Man. The hero name was later given to the character Julia Carpenter, who was introduced during the first Secret Wars comics as the new Spider-Woman, who serves as a younger version of the character. It's not clear how the film will juggle the mythos, but Johnson is not likely to be playing a geriatric on life-support.
The movie would continue Sony's plans to capitalize on the Spider-Man adjacent characters that it has the film rights, as it has for the Venom franchise as well as upcoming Morbius and Kraven films, and the planned Silk TV series.
