X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the 2009 20th Century Studios live-action feature film based on Marvel Comics' Wolverine character. It is a direct spinoff of the X-Men film series and the first in the Wolverine film series.
Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Logan (aka Wolverine). The story details his origins as a young boy in the 1800s who discovers his mutant ability and flees with fellow mutant Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber). The story moves through history into the 1970s where he's a member of Team X under the command of William Stryker (Danny Huston) which includes Agent Zero (Daniel Henney), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), John Wraith (Will.i.am), The Blob (Kevin Durand) and Chris Bradley (Dominic Monaghan). Later, after the team has disbanded, Logan is attacked by someone targeting former Team X members. The attack results in the death of his love, Silverfox (Lynn Collins), sending him on a mission of vengeance. The movie also stars Taylor Kitsch as Gambit.
The movie is directed by Gavin Hood from a script by David Benioff and Skip Woods.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine did well at the box office. However, it was panned by critics for its weak storyline and lackluster effects. Fans disliked it particularly for its bizarre depiction of Deadpool as far off-model from the comics.
The movie is followed by The Wolverine.
