Virus is the 1999 Universal Pictures live-action feature film adapting the Dark Horse Comics series of the same name created by Chuck Pfarrer.
Jamie Lee Curtis stars as Kelly Foster, an former Navy officer and now navigator of the tugboat Sea Star. The boat is captained by Robert Everton (Donald Sutherland). While undergoing repairs after navigating through a typhoon, the Sea Star encounters the Akademik Vladislav Volkov, a Russian research vessel that appears dead in the water. Seeing an opportunity for big salvage profits, the crew of the Sea Star boards the Volkov, finding it mysteriously abandoned and all the on-boards electronics cannibalized. In fact, the ship has downloaded an alien intelligence that views machines as life and organic species, such as humans, as an invading virus. This intelligence is transforming the Volkov into a breeding ground for its robotic offspring leaving the crew to fight for their lives.
The movie also stars William Baldwin, Joanna Pacula, Sherman Augustus and Cliff Curtis (Fear the Walking Dead).
VFX artist and James Cameron protégé John Bruno directed the film from a script by Pfarrer and Dennis Feldman. Gale Anne Hurd produced the movie.
The movie was poorly received by both critics and audiences and bombed at the box office.
