Venom is the 2018 feature film produced by Columbia Pictures based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
The film finds Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) a discredited journalist stumbling on a story lead involving the Life Foundation and its discovery of an alien life form. The alien life, in theory, can form a symbiotic bond with a host life form and Brock believes CEO Carlton Drake is running illegal experiments attempting human hosting of the symbiotes. Brock's investigation leads him to bond with the symbiote called Venom. Now empowered with special abilities, Venom seeks to stop Drake and the Life Foundation's plot.
The movie also stars Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Brock's some time girlfriend and lawyer to the Life Foundation and Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake, CEO of the Life Foundation and host to the symbiote Riot.
Ruben Fleischer directed the film from a script by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel.
Venom was not well-received by critics, but did well at the box office. As a result, Sony teed up a sequel which will find Woody Harrelson playing Cletus Kasady (aka Carnage).
