Steel is Warner Bros' 1997, live-action adaptation of the DC Comics character of the same name.
NBA star Shaquille O'Neal stars as John Henry Irons, a soldier and inventor who creates a suit of armor and weapons to go with it. When his tech is misused by a fellow soldier named Burke (Judd Nelson), Irons resigns and Burke is discharged. Later Irons realizes Burke is continuing to use his tech for criminal purposes and dons the suit once more to stop him. Annabeth Gish and Richard Roundtree also star.
The movie is directed by Kenneth Johnson from his own script, which completely discards the Superman mythology that ties into the character.
Steel was trashed by critics and rejected entirely by moviegoers and comic fans alike.
