The Spirit (2008 Film): Available on Starz

The Spirit is the 2008 feature film adaptation of Will Eisner's classic comic book.

The film is written and directed by comics creator Frank Miller, who's star was rising in the wake of the highly-successful Sin City and 300 movies. Produced with the same green-screen, highly-rendered aesthetic, The Spirit features Gabriel Macht as former police detective Denny Colt who is left for dead, but survives and returns as a masked crime-fighter.

The Spirit also stars Samuel L. Jackson as "The Octopus", Eva Mendes as Sand Serif and Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss.

Though appreciated as a highly-stylistic cult film, The Spirt was a critical and box office bomb and effectively extinguished Miller's Hollywood hot streak.
